Los Angeles is not one roofing climate. A bungalow in Mid-Wilshire, a hillside house in Los Feliz, a ranch in Encino or Van Nuys, and a Harbor-area home in San Pedro fail in different ways: UV-cooked pipe boots in the Basin, wind uplift on the hills, valley heat in the SFV, and salt air near the water. The city spans California climate zones 6, 8, and 9. Coastal marine layer in the west and south, hotter inland valleys, and hillside wind. Title 24 cool-roof products are commonly required on steep-slope reroofs. Rubber boots and cheap three-tab shingles age faster here than the brochure suggests.
Housing stock runs from 1920s bungalows and Spanish Revival tile to 1950s–70s ranches and newer two-stories. Many Valley ranches are on their second or third shingle layer. Hillside homes add pitch, valleys, and access time. We inspect before quoting because a Mid-City duplex and a hillside original are not the same job.
